There’s something special about using plants to dye fabric. It connects you to the land, the plant, and a process that’s been practiced throughout history. I dye for so many reasons, but above all its because it has taught me to be slow and thoughtful.

My name is Sydni Gause (she/her) and I’ve been practicing natural dyes since 2018. Most of my dye career has been through trial and error, something I think is really important when learning anything new. After I had multiple errors I decided to read books, learn recipes, and take classes with some of the best natural dyers in the field. I now have a large dye garden in North Florida where I grow dye plants all year around.

Parallel to natural dyeing I teach in higher education as an Adjunct Professor of Art. I have a BFA in Fine Art and an MFA in Sculpture and consider my dye endeavors as a part of my on-going studio practice.
